چکیده
Abstract Introduction Previous studies have shown that treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy in patients OSA and comorbid depression may improve response to antidepressant medication therapy. At the same time, scant evidence has examined impact PAP adherence depression. Patients adhere one be more likely other therapies or healthy behaviors a so-called “healthy user effect.” This retrospective study investigated association between newly diagnosed Methods Our data source was national sample administrative claims linked objective usage. Included either had two healthcare encounters hospitalization ICD-10 diagnosis code year prior being initiated on Adherence defined as ≥80% proportion days covered (PDC), non-adherence < 80% PDC within 180-day exposure window during starting categorized consistently adherent, intermediately not adherent based usage over 2 years. Results 36,668 were included. 27% classified 45% 28% non-adherent 68.6% used initiation. 67.7% selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, 43.8% atypical antidepressants, 32.1% norepinephrine 10.7% tricyclic antidepressant, 0.1% monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Relative (22.2% 33.9% adherent), those also years (29.2% 45.2% 25.6% adherent). Conclusion slightly better In real-world studies, an important confounder adjust for when comparing patient outcomes. Factors Affecting Patients’ Adherence to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder: A Multi-Method Approach
Background: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard therapy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. However, patients’ adherence to its regular use is poor. The present study aimed to determine the adherence rate to CPAP therapy by identifying factors affecting its regular use and its associated problems and discomforts among a sample population in Mashhad (...
متن کاملAdherence to and effectiveness of positive airway pressure therapy in children with obstructive sleep apnea.
OBJECTIVES Positive airway pressure therapy (PAP) is frequently used to treat children who have obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and do not respond to adenotonsillectomy. However, no studies have evaluated objectively adherence to PAP in children, and few studies have evaluated objectively the effectiveness of PAP. The objective of this study was to determine adherence and effectiveness of PAP ...

Objective. To determine predictors of patient adherence to CPAP. Design. A retrospective chart review identified patients with AHI values greater than 15 who were recommended to receive CPAP. Compliance was measured at a 1-to 4-month interval and at 1 year. Results. There were 106 of 368 (29%) patients who received CPAP therapy that were compliant with CPAP use at 1 to 4 months. Forty-six patie...
متن کاملImpact of adherence with positive airway pressure therapy on hypercapnia in obstructive sleep apnea.
BACKGROUND Daytime hypercapnia is common in morbidly obese patients with obstructive sleep apnea and is associated with serious complications. Our objective was to quantify the effect of adherence with positive airway pressure on hypercapnia and hypoxia in these patients. METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study of 75 patients using a multivariable general linear model analysis to id...
متن کاملPositive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Positive airway pressure (PAP) is considered first-line therapy for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea and may also be considered for mild obstructive sleep apnea, particularly if it is symptomatic or there are concomitant cardiovascular disorders. Continuous PAP is most commonly used. Other modes, such as bilevel airway pressure, autotitrating positive airway pressure, average volume a...
